Mother’s Day: What I Hope You Remember About Caring for Yourself
Mother’s Day always makes me think about the kind of love that shows up quietly.
Not the big gestures. The everyday ones.
The lunch was packed while everyone else was still asleep. The text you send to check in. The way you keep going, even when you’re tired. The way you hold a whole house together with small decisions that nobody applauds.
So today, I want to say this first.
If you’re a mother, or if you’ve been mothering in any way (raising kids, supporting family, caring for others, being the steady person), I see you.
And I want to give you something that actually helps.
Not a perfect routine. Not a long list. Just a simple way to take care of your skin, your body, and your mind in a more natural and intentional way.
The Mother’s Day reset I like most (because it’s realistic)
If you do nothing else today, do these three things. They take very little time, but they change how you feel.
1) Wash your face like you’re taking care of someone you love
Slow down. Use lukewarm water. Let your cleanser do the work instead of scrubbing.
When skin is irritated, overwhelmed, or “acting up,” it usually needs less friction, less heat, and fewer steps.
After you rinse, pat dry. Don’t rub. That small detail matters more than people think.
2) Moisturize while your skin is still slightly damp
This is one of the easiest habits to keep.
Moisturizer works better when it has a little water to hold onto. It helps your skin feel calmer and more comfortable, especially if you’re dealing with dryness or sensitivity.
If you’ve been skipping moisturizer because you don’t like how it feels, that’s a product problem, not a “you” problem. There’s a comfortable option for you. I see that all the time with clients.
3) Put your phone down for 10 minutes and let your nervous system breathe
This part is skincare, too.
Stress shows up on your face. In your jaw. In your sleep. In your hormones. In your digestion. In your inflammation. It’s all connected.
So set a timer for 10 minutes. Sit down. Drink water. Step outside. Put on music. Do nothing productive.
Let your body feel safe for a moment.
A reminder for the women who always “do it later”
A lot of women wait until life slows down to take care of themselves.
But life doesn’t slow down. It just changes. There’s always something.
So I want you to hear this clearly.
You don’t need a full day off to care for yourself. You need small choices you can repeat.
That’s where the real change comes from.
Not one facial. Not one product. Not one perfect week.
Consistency beats intensity.
If you’re celebrating your mom today
If you’re buying flowers, I love that. If you’re cooking for her, I love that. If you’re calling her, I love that.
But if you want to give something that lasts past today, give her permission to rest without earning it.
Tell her she doesn’t have to prove she deserves care.
And if you are the mom reading this, give yourself that permission, too.
What I’d tell you if you were sitting with me
I work with women every day, and I can tell you this.
Most of the time, what you need is not another complicated plan. You need a routine that feels simple, supportive, and doable.
You need fewer steps to actually follow.
You need products that don’t fight your skin.
You need space to breathe.
And you need to feel like you're allowed to take care of yourself.
Happy Mother’s Day.
If you’re here, you’re in the right place. This is what I’ll always share: real-life care, honest guidance, and small daily practices that make a difference.
With love,
Elizama
